Litter Box and Toilet
Regular litter boxes will hardly work for your pet even in the beginning. You need an XL litter box, so your cat could still fit in it as times goes by. The box must have high walls so that the litter isn't splattered around it.
We prefer hooded litter boxes but not every house has enough space or a suitable interior for them. I train kittens to go potty with a natural cat litter. Just in case any of the babies takes the litter into their mouth while exploring the new world around them, nothing bad happens. World (фото). Even though this cat litter brand is the most expensive, I like it most of all. It is safe to use, and it can be flushed down the toilet.
Later I train my cats to use Purina Breeze system. At home we use huge litter boxes and furniture enclosures that hide the boxes. They match our interior pretty well. I don't use litter robots or self-cleaning litter boxes but based on the feedback from new owners, cats like them. Cats love hooded litter boxes. They feel safe and comfortable inside.
The most suitable and comfortable litter boxes look like that:
The kittens in our home grow up with either hooded or simply big and deep litter boxes, so there's a great chance they will refuse to use a smaller or shallower litter box. To avoid any toilet issues, offer your kitten to use cat litter that they were given in our house and then offer another litter box with the litter you find more convenient for you. If a litter box isn't comfortable or the litter isn't something a kitten is used to, there is chance that your kitten will do their business wherever they like. Only after they get used to this, you can start experimenting with litter and eventually choose the one that works for both you and your cat. There are cats that will use any box or litter right away and without any issues. But if your cat isn't like that, there will be a lot of problems because the box isn't comfortable, or the litter is wrong.
If you kitten is the second cat
A lot of owners are concerned if a kitten can use the same box as the first cat in the household.
Some percentage of kittens will master this task, and everything will work out. Considering the older cat isn't against this, though there are some cats who won't use the same box as another cat. That is why during the adaptation period most kittens require the same litter box as at the breeder's place (or the same size hooded box) and, what's most important, the same litter.
The main rule is:
A litter box shouldn't be located near food or water under any circumstances. Cats are clean and tidy by nature, and they will never do their business in the same place they eat or sleep. That is why their loungers should be as far away from their litter boxes as possible.
Toilet is not a very complex issue for the owners since our kittens are trained by their mom to be clean from an early age. As early as at three weeks old I can see kittens eating supplementary food – natural meat – and they immediately feel the need to use a toilet.
If you have an opportunity to buy natural plant-based litter for your adult cat – perfect. If you don't have this opportunity, always inspect your cat's pads for cracks and other injuries from other litters.
Maine Coons are very smart cats. You can train your cat to use a regular human toilet. There are various training systems and instructions online.
Some cats prefer to use an absolutely empty and clean litter box. Our cat Jessika always asks for a clean box.
Based on the feedback from new families, our kittens never have any problems using a toilet. And I wish your family to never have any toilet related issues.
